Three Counties Ride
12th October 2025
The day began misty and distinctly autumnal - a perfect setting for our October ride-out.
Members gathered in Chelsea at the Warr’s iconic dealership, for the 10:00hrs briefing; ready for one of the last rides of the season.
42 riders were soon on the road, rumbling over Putney Bridge.
A big thank you to Nigel Gaskin for marking the Putney Hill roundabout - never the easiest of spots. There’s always that slight chance you’ll find yourself explaining to ‘traffic’ why your Harley appears to have ‘broken down’ there!
Credit to everyone for a smooth exit of London and for correctly turning off the unmarked A3 at Oxshott junction, sparing last man RC Rob Warr from a long chase down to Portsmouth.
After an hour and forty minutes of enjoyable riding, we arrived at our coffee stop: the Stud Farm in Balls Cross.
Birthday girl Virginia and her team were waiting with an impressive spread of freshly baked cakes that were devoured with enthusiasm.
In an unusual Meet the Chapter, we tried to introduce one of the brood mares and her foal - but the mare clearly wasn’t impressed by the sight of so many leather-clad ‘studs’ and promptly galloped off!
Undeterred, the Chapter broke into a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday for our host - our first public performance together! The tone and harmonies were, shall we say, unexpected and unique - Gareth Malone would have been proud of the effort, if not the pitch.
Back on the bikes through the beautiful Ebernoe Common and then Petworth, we pass RC Fred who was standing in a ditch marking a difficult turnoff.
We make our way to The Swan in Chiddingfold, via a spirited stretch on the A-road and a freshly resurfaced lane.
Fabio, the Maître D’, was ready to greet us, and within twenty minutes of arrival, drinks and hearty three-meat roasts were on the tables for the eager diners - remarkable service considering the pub was still bustling with locals.
Fed, watered and content, we emerged to find the sun finally breaking through, providing a fitting end to a fine autumn ride.
